About the Project

Coleman’s Crossing is a mixed-use community located in eastern Virginia along Chesapeake Bay. Designed with New Urbanism principles, the community consists of 85 townhomes and 40,000 square feet of office, retail and dining amenities, promoting walkability throughout.

The developer of the project, Zandler Development, has built its reputation on building distinctive, high-quality homes and commercial projects with custom detail. In addition to its commitment to bring to Gloucester, VA a best-in-class community, Zandler is also committed to building Coleman’s Crossing with superb, lasting materials to reduce the regular maintenance required by its valued homebuyers.

Zandler Development selected Boral TruExterior Trim, from among all competing trim options. This product is able to both stand the test of time and resist the common ailments other trim products experience with moisture and temperature changes (or preparing for them) such as expansion, contraction, rotting, deterioration, cupping, twisting, and highly cumbersome installations.

Barrack explains that he reviewed all trim options and Boral TruExterior Trim stood out for its extreme durability, easy installation and low maintenance requirements. “We are really happy with this trim”.

Excellent Workability

Boral TruExterior® Trim is designed for a number of applications and is similar to wood in that it is easy to handle, of similar weight, can be painted any color, is reversible and can be installed with the same tools. However, it outperforms wood in durability and workability and is virtually free from rotting, splitting and termite attacks. Boral TruExterior Trim is suitable for ground contact and does not require end-sealing, special adhesives, or other costly installation techniques.

“When we witnessed the ease of this product’s installation during our first phase of development, we decided to implement it on all of our townhomes and on our commercial buildings as well,” said Barrack.

Stellar Performance

Boral TruExterior® Trim is made from a proprietary blend of recycled polymers and fly ash, a coal combustion product, which helps ensure consistency and virtually no moisture cycling or absorption+. With a high level of dimensional stability, it outperforms competing products during periods of moisture and temperature changes+. Boral TruExterior Trim is long lasting and requires little maintenance.

“We knew this product was our best choice when considering longevity and the appearance of our homes over time,” notes Barrack.

Multiple Applications

Boral TruExterior® Trim can be utilized for a variety of non-structural applications including:

• Fascia Boards
• Soffits
• Frieze Boards
• Rake Boards
• Garage Door Casings
• Window Surrounds
• Door Trim
• And many others

Sustainably Focused

In addition to the product’s performance, Boral TruExterior® Trim offers a high level of sustainability, as it has been designated Cradle to Cradle CertifedCM Silver by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). Boral TruExterior Trim is the first and only exterior trim product to earn the certification. The product contains one of the highest amounts of recycled content in the exterior trim marketplace, a minimum of 70% recycled materials - as certified by the Scientific Certification Systems.
